Mention of Tred Barta around these parts typically gets a mixed reaction. Tred’s sense of humor and brash self-promotional style, he’ll tell you himself, can be a bit hard to see through and has sometimes rubbed people the wrong way. Some of his history locally left him with a few bitter enemies—though that is hardly a unique phenomenon.

But Tred also earned the love and respect of many people around the world that he helped through his highly successful charity big game fishing tournaments that raised more than $1 million for the Boys and Girls Club programs. He won others over through his personal compassion for a few folks who just needed a friend to pull them up, even if it came with a slap in the back of the head…
